CEBU, Philippines - Rising super bantamweight Dave ‘The Hunter’ Peñalosa kept his unbeaten record intact with a tough unanimous decision victory against Mexican Alem Robles the other night at the San Juan Arena in San Juan City.
The former Cebuano amateur standout did not fulfill his goal of a knockout as Robles used his aggressive style against Peñalosa.
Robles was able to connect with some good combination to Peñalosa in the first three rounds, but the Cebuano boxer kept his composure and tried to land his own shots at the Mexican.
With his eyes swelling in the sixth and final round, Peñalosa connected with a strong left straight to the chin of Robles who was rocked but showed nerves of steels to withstand the onslaught until the final bell.
Afterbout, the three judges scored 58-56, 58-56 and 59-56, all in favor for Peñalosa, who improved his clean record 8-0 spiked with 5KOs. Robles fell to 6-4.
Meanwhile in the main event of the slambang boxing card promoted by Gerry Peñalosa Promotions,Michael Fareñas (38-4, 30KOs) captured the vacant WBC Asia Council Continental super featherweight title with a second round technical decision against Mexican journeyman Hector Velasquez(56-21, 38KOs). — LPM (FREEMAN)
