SHS-Ateneo booters progress in Aboitiz Cup

CEBU, Philippines - The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu booters continued their solid advance in the 16th Aboitiz Cup football tournament at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

SHS-AdC pulled off a convincing 4-1 victory against Don Bosco Technology Center in the under-11 semifinals to set up a championship duel versus  the University of San Carlos-Basic Education, which moved into the gold medal round after a 2-0 win over Lahug FC.

In the under-13 quarterfinals, SHS-AdC went through some scary moments before eking out a 6-5 triumph over the gritty Subangdaku FC in the penalty shootout.

In the other quarterfinal games of the under-13 age group, Abellana National School-Pomeroy and Springdale squad posted contrasting wins.

ANS- Pomeroy won by default over Mactan Camellanz, while Springdale prevailed over DBTC-1, 6-4, also via shootout.

The Bosconians though had their share of happiness after DBTC-D gained a final ticket in the under-9 class against Lahug FC.

DBTC-D escaped past its sister team DBTC-A, 4-3, while Lahug FC outsmarted DBTC-B, 1-0. — (FREEMAN)
