Cebuano athletes rule PRISAA Regional Meet

CEBU, Philippines -  Host team Cebu ended their campaign in an impressive fashion as they successfully defended their overall crown in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Regional Meet which formally came to a close in different venues in the city, yesterday.

The tandem of Edmar Bonono of University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Mark Anthony Fernandez of University of the Visayas won the deciding match in the men’s volleyball against Bohol, 2-0.

Over in the football field, Cebuano booters pulled of a 10-1 annihilation of Bohol.  Agapito Baclaan scored four goals, while Ricko de Guzman and Marjun Capul had two each as Neil Ryan Bono, Sean Carlos Broce, Lorenzo Magbanua, and Lester Agravante contributed a goal each.

Cebuano karatekas also grabbed 10 golds and two bronzes.  Ann Marie Riarte and Vince Harvey Cabrera shine in the kata competition, while Gwen Jade Ponteros dominated the 50 kg. class.

The rest of the gold medalists for Cebu in karate are Lynie Narbonda, Kelvin Suan(60 kgs), Marjorie Villareal(61 kgs), Mary Mathilde Auza(+68) and Antonio Bacud in the +75 kgs.

Siblings Prince Joey and Joery Ann Lee sealed Cebu’s bid with a 1-2 finish in the 5,000m run. Prince Joey won the men's division with 16:33:20 clocking over Bohol's Jiven Pojas while Joery (26:77:66) settled for silver after being beaten by Bohol's Teodelyn Calabroso (22:54:79).
