CEBU, Philippines - Close to a thousand runners have already registered for the first Cebu City SRP-Midnight Marathon on March 2 at the South Road Properties (SRP) grounds.
Originally scheduled to kick off last December, the organizers decided to move after Cebu was affected by super typhoon ‘Yolanda’ that devastated the Visayas region.
“We are happy because even if the run was moved, we still got some positive response from runners and running clubs that they are going to join the race,†said G-Concept president Jeson Guard in a press conference yesterday at the Sunburst Fried chicken in Paseo San Ramon in Banawa, this city.
“Close to one thousand have already signed up and we are hoping that we will have a big turnout of participants during the race day.
Cebu City Councilor Ritchie Osmeña also said that the landmark event in Cebu road running circuit coincides with the culmination of the week-long Charter Day celebration.
Aside from the premiere 42-kilometer open division, the race also features the 21K and 5K categories.
Over P200, 000 in cash is at stake for the top performers in each category. Souvenir shirts and specially-designed medals will also be given away to the 21K and 42K finishers. Special awards will also be handed out to the best in costume and biggest contingent among others.
To give chance to local athletes, the organizers have decided to include a separate category for foreign runners especially the Kenyans who have been a dominant force in the local running scene for the past five years.
Registration fee is pegged at P350 for the 5K, P700 for the 21K, and P1,200 for the 42K inclusive of snacks, race bib and singlet.
Entry forms are available at Runnr in Ayala Center Cebu and Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) office located at the Cebu City Sports Center. One may also visit G-Concept’s fan page in Facebook for more details.
