CEBU, Philippines - Former Cuban amateur sensation Reymi Castellano Aleye will strut his wares in the ALA Boxing and Fitness Gym's "Sinulog Boxing at the Mall" slated on January 19 at the Gaisano Countrymall carpark in Brgy. Banilad, this city.
The 26-year old Aleye bagged six national titles and fought 400 fights as an amateur boxer in Cuba before he made waves in France, Germany and Ukraine.
Aleye also had a rare chance to trade blows in the amateur against reigning WBA and WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux who scored an upset victory against Filipino ring star Nonito Donaire Jr. last April in New York.
With close to three months of training in the famed ALA Boxing Gym, Aleye (2-0, 1KO) will be tested against Cebuano Rodel Wenceslao (7-6, 2KOs).
“I heard and read a lot about the ALA Boxing Gym back when I was in Cambodia. That was the sign for me to come here to the Philippines to broaden my skills and acquire experience,†said Aleye.
“My favorite boxer is Manny Pacquiao who is from Philippines and I also kive the warm culture of the Filipinos.â€
Headlining the fight card is fast-rising Bacolod City fighter Roland Servania who will go up against Dingdong Quiñones of General Santos City in a non-title duel of bantamweight scheduled for six rounds. (FREEMAN)
