Though nothing is definite yet on rematch Fuentes: I’m focused on destroying Nietes

CEBU, Philippines - Their rematch has already been ordered by the World Boxing Organization only that nothing is definite yet as of the moment as to when and where it will happen.

But this early, former Mexican world champion Moises Fuentes has made it known that he is already keeping his hands busy for his highly-anticipated return bout with WBO light flyweight crown-holder Donnie "Ahas" Netes of the ALA Boxing Gym that will most likely take place within the first quarter of the year.

The two great warriors figured in classic ring war that ended in a close majority draw on March 2 last year at the Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino. Insisting that they won the fight, the handlers of Fuentes led by Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera called for an immediate rematch which was eventually granted by the WBO early last month.

Fuentes himself had said in a recent interview with Anson Wainwright of doghouseboxing.com that he already beat Nietes and it wouldn't be hard for him to do it again.

When asked by Wainwright about what he thinks about the light flyweight division and its reigning champions, Fuentes answered: "I believe this division is getting stronger each day. Any opponent is dangerous and [WBA champion] Roman Gonzalez is the most dangerous. I know Donnie Nietes very well and is not really hard [to defeat]. I beat Nietes already and I don't need to take care [WBC champion] Adrian Hernandez."

Fuentes felt what he lacks during his first meeting with Nietes is experience and that wouldn't be a problem anymore when they clash anew.

"I think in that fight, I didn't have enough experience. Nietes is an old wolf, but it was his hardest fight of his life. Nobody punished him like I did," said Fuentes.

Both camps are still in the negotiating table for the rematch but Fuentes has indicated that right now, he has nothing else in mind other than to destroy Nietes.

Pressed further by Wainwright on what goals he still have in boxing, Fuentes replied:"Now I'm focused on destroying Nietes. I get the junior flyweight title. I want to be the champ of the world in several different divisions."

To achieve that highly ambitious goal though, Fuentes must have to get past Nietes first. (FREEMAN)
