Casimero keeps IBF title

CEBU, Philippines - Johnreil 'Quadro Alas' Casimero retained his IBF light flyweight title in a spectacular fashion with an 11th round stoppage against Mexico’s Felipe Salguero last Saturday night at the Makati Coliseum in Makati City.

In a report from boxingscene.com, Casimero showed power and speed as he dropped Salguero two times in the eighth and ninth rounds before finally destroying the Mexican boxer in the 11th round.

Casimero connected with a strong left and right combination that sent Salguero kneeling on the canvass forcing referee Wayne Hedgepeth to stop the carnage in the dying seconds of the round.

With the win, Casimero improves his record to 19-2, spiked with 11 knockouts, while Salguero suffered his fifth career loss in his 24 professional fights.

It was a memorable win for Casimero as he retained his title for the first time in front of his countryman after he defended  it twice already in foreign soil.

After his masterful 10th round TKO of Argentine Luis Alberto Lazarte in their riot-marred bout on February 13, 2012 at the Club Once Unidos in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina that earned him the IBF 108-pound belt, Casimero had a successful title defense against Mexican Pedro Guevara via split decision in Sinaloa, Mexico last year and then by unanimous verdict over Luis Alberto Rios last March 3 at the Megapolis Convention Center in Panama.

In the supporting bouts of the blockbuster card promoted by MP Promotions of ring superstar Manny Pacquiao, Filipino featherweight contender Michael Farenas (36-4, 28KOs) destroyed Thai Kosol Sor Vorapin (17-17, 11KOs) in the second round, while undefeated flyweight Froilan Saludar dominated Sorthep Sor Von Krungthep of Thailand via unanimous decision.  (FREEMAN)
