Cebuano bets steal show in national dance tourney

CEBU, Philippines - Team Cebu City danced the night away in jovial mood after seizing 16 golds, nine silvers and seven bronzes in the 17th DSCPI National DanceSport Championship and 1st International Friendship Games at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City the other night.

DTCC fielded in 19 couples who competed in 28 different events for the finale of the three-leg national battle.

John Paul Mocorro's star shone brightly as he led DTCC's charge with a total of four golds under two separate partners.

Mocorro and Therese Andre Quilaton bagged two golds through the junior A latin and standard. Mocorro snared two more two golds with Jam Flores in the youth C.

Flores, for her part, plucked two other golds with with Bjorn Toreon in the SE1F standard and with Bert Kevin Diluvio in the SE male standard.

Andrew Ysla and Kathleene Joy Deluvio clinched two golds in the junior C class, while Francis Isiah Diluvio and  Anndreah Kiem Capangpangan grabbed gold in the juvenile A latin.

DTCC directress Eleanor Hayco along with Wilbert Aunzo also stamper her class with a golden showing in the SEA-latin action. Hayco also won a silver along with Davin Unabia in the SE2B standard.

The other DTCC members who got golds in the latin division were Jimmy Noel and Elsa Zets (senior C), Roi Rendon and Sharmaine Maloloy-on (grade C), Jeffrey Benarao and Mary Mae Canillo (youth A) and Jojit Cabuenas and Akiko Ozaeta (senior A).

In the modern standard discipline, the DTCC gold medallists were Zjiane Troy and Zjiana Tracy Villarta (youth A) and Jesel Yap and Diane James (SE2B0.

Rhea and Roque Marquez as well as Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Caneda had a 2-3 finish in the latin grade A to spice up DTCC's campaign.

Diluvio and Capangpangan picked up silvers in the juvenile A standard, in the same way with Toreon and Flores in the grade C standard and Rendon and Maloloy-on in the SE male latin.

Roi's brother, Eo together with Desiree Seraga ended their bid with a silver via the SE1 latin, while one of Cebu's pioneers in dancesport, Charlie Camacho and Marisee Reyes, bagged a silver in the senior A latin. Ronald Ruiz and Bing Verstig got their own silver in the senior C standard.

Mae Pabuaya handed a silver in the SE1 female event with Romeo Cialbo and a bronze in the grade B latin with Samson Orlanes.

The six other bronzes came from Jimmy Noel and Elsa Zets in the SE 2B, senior C standard and SE2F latin, Rommel Reyes and Marianne Camacho in the pro A standard and Bert Kevin Diluvio and Jam Flores in the grade C latin. (FREEMAN)
