Singwangcha, Mancio to defend Phl titles tonight

CEBU, Philippines - They're fighting in different places today, but Marco Demecillo-Singwangcha and Jerson “Smooth Operator” Mancio have one common mission - defend their titles.

Singwangcha (18-1, 14KOs) will put his Philippine super flyweight throne on the line against undefeated challenger Giovanni ‘Little Giant’ Escaner (10-0, 6KOs) of Parañaque City in the main event of ‘Astig Pinoy I’ tonight in Dipolog City.

Singwangcha, fighting under the banner of RWS Stable of Cebu topnotch promoter Rex "Wakee" Salud, will make the second defense of the belt he seized following a third round knockout of the previously unbeaten Marvin Mabait in April last year at the Lapu-Lapu Shrine in Mactan Island.

Singwangcha lost in his previous bout by unanimous decision to ALA Boxing Gym mainstay Arthur Villanueva four months ago at the University of Southeastern Philippines Gymnasium in Davao City, thus, he will make this fight against Escaner as his stepping stone to a rousing comeback.

Over at the Magsaysay Park in Davao City, the 25-year-old Mancio will risk his Phl light flyweight crown against new challenger Jovel Romasasa in a 12-round rumble headlining the “ALA-Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing” fightcard.

The OPBF top-ranked 108-pounder Mancio carries a 17-3-3 win-loss-draw record spiked with 8KOs, making him a heavy favorite over Romasasa, whose 10 wins matched the number of his defeats. (FREEMAN)
