CEBU, Philippines - Former track and field stars hope to relive their old, glory days as they strut their wares anew in the 1st Masters Athletics Invitational Championships starting today at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Over a hundred entries from all over the country as well as some foreigners are expected to take part in the two-day event.
The youngest age group to be contested is 35-39 and the oldest is 75-above.
Today's battle includes the 5,000-meter run, 5,000m walk, 400m run, javelin throw, high jump, 200m run, 1,500m run, shot put and long jump.
Tomorrow, the participants will compete in the 10,000m run, discus throw, triple jump, 800m run, 100m run, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay.
Pole vault may also be done depending on the number of entries.
The event will also be an opportunity for the present crop of athletes to get valuable techniques from some of the country's top athletic stars including 1996 Atlanta Olympian and 6-time Milo Marathon champion Roy Vence and the multi-titled Elma Muros Posadas along with SEA Games gold medallists John Lozada, Emerson Obiena, Ernie Candelario, Erlinda Lavandia, and Renato Unso.
