Marco Singwangcha to defend Phl title against unbeaten foe
CEBU, Philippines - Marco Demecillo Singwangcha will defend his Philippine super flyweight title against undefeated challenge Giovanni ‘Little Giant’ Escaner of Parañaque City in the main event of ‘Astig Pinoy I’ on August 17 in Dipolog City.
It will be Singwangcha's second defense of the crown he won after dethroning the previously unbeaten champion Marvin Mabait via third round knockout in April last year at the Lapu-Lapu Shrine in Mactan Island.
In his first defense five months later, Singwangcha easily dismantled Marvin Tabamo in the fourth round in his hometown of Iligan City.
In his previous fight, however, Singwangcha suffered his first and only loss, so far, by unanimous decision at the hands of ALA Boxing Gym mainstay Arthur Villanueva last April 20 at the University of Southeastern Philippines Gymnasium in Davao City.
Singwangcha, thus, saw his 18-fight winning streak spiked with 14KOs come to a sudden red stop. He's up for a tough challenge against Escaner, who is unscathed in 10 fights with six knockouts.
In the supporting main event of the slambang show presented by Thai promoter Naris Singwangcha in association with RWS International Promotions of noted Cebuano boxingman Rex "Wakee" Salud, Gadwin Tubigon will slug it out with Donriel Marcos in a 10-round bout, while Anthony Singwangcha Sabalde will face Jeffrey Jimenez in a flyweight duel scheduled for eight rounds.
The rest of the action-packed card features Kenny Singwangcha Demecillo vs. Edward Camion; Carlo Singwangcha vs. Michael Acevido; and Melmark Dignos vs. Bryan Capangpangan. (FREEMAN)
