Aegis stays clean; Batua fires 43 points for Accenture in CSCC E-League

EBV - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Aegis Vipers pummeled the 1&1 Marauders, 77-56, to stay as the only undefeated team in the 9th CSCC E-League for Basketball last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Dean Junber Escalon charted 18 points and Steve Warren Navaja added 16 for Aegis, which firmed up its grip of the overall lead with an unblemished 5-0 slate.

Aegis led by just two after the first period, 17-15, but battered its foe at will in the middle quarters, 48-23, to mount an unassailable 28-point advantage, 65-38, heading into the final 10-minute mark of the contest.

Argiel Fernandez and Jan Isiah Gabest connived for 29 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists, but their one-two pounch wasn't strong enough as 1&1 suffered its fourth loss in six stars.

On the other hand, Archie Brian Vincent Batua exploded with a tournament-high 43 points on top of 11 rebounds and three steals as the Accenture Sharks swallowed the Telstra-Teletech Titans, 97-82.

Ryan Edward Llanos chipped in 23 points, four rebounds and four steals, while Jasper Loreto contributed 15 points and four rebounds for Accenture, which stayed on top of the Southern Conference with a 7-1 win-loss record.

Accenture trailed by a matchstick early on, 22-23, but outfoxed and outplayed Telstra-Teletech in next three quarters to come up with a 15-point romp.

Clifford Amarado netted 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals, even as three others cashed in double figures for Telstra-Teletech. Jaeryl Andrei Delicana had 13 points and six rebounds, Edsel Capillanes scored 12 on top of three rebounds, while Ben Belena had 10 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals but their efforts went to waste as they slumped to their fifth loss against two victories.

In the final game of a triple-header, Raymond Dennis Tan finished with 13 points, four steals and three rebounds as the ePerformax Reds whipped the Kyocera Frontiers, 65-55.

Floyd Dean Singco and Alejandro Ruiz connived for 22 points as ePerformax improved its record to 3-2, while handing the winless Kyocera its fifth consecutive setback. Winston Stephen Panal paced Kyocera with 18 points and five rebounds followed by Ariel Ramonito Edera with 17 points, six rebounds, four steals, and two assists in a losing effort. (FREEMAN)
