CEBU, Philippines - The Cebuano players who represented the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Beach Volleyball Championships last week in Ratchaburi, Thailand landed at a decent fifth place overall.
The performance of Jonrey Sasing and Edward Ybañez in the men's division and Jusabelle Brillo and Apple Saraum in the distaff side were good enough for them to get endorsement from Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) consultant Eric Lecain, who is also the beach volley director of the Philippine Volleyball Federation, regular members of the national team.
“I thought they handled themselves very well considering the time they had to prepare and the fact that it was their first international tournament together,â€said Lecain, who is currently in Manila to discuss about the future of the team with the PSC.
To recall, the PSC has dissolved the country's previous beach volley team after they were beaten by the Cebuanos in last year's PSC-POC Philippine National Games.
This year, the Cebuanos reigned supreme anew in the PNG, paving the way for their Thailand trip.
The Cebuanos have yet to prove their real worth though as they gear up for the 2013 Asian Volleyball Confederation Beach Tour, the China Xianning Open, on September 26-29. (FREEMAN)
