ALA Promotions signs up Boholano boxing prodigy
CEBU, Philippines - Top Filipino boxing prospect Jessel Mark Magsayo of Tagbilaran City formally signed a multi-year fight contract under ALA Promotions. He is one of the latest addition to the elite list of Pinoy world title hopefuls under the country’s premier boxing outfit.
Magsayo, who turned 18 last June 22, has been trading blows as an amateur since he was eight. He joined several competitions including the annual Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) national tournaments where he garnered four gold medals in different weight divisions and was named best boxer twice.
Last May of this year, the 5-foot-6 amateur standout made an explosive pro debut as a featherweight during Pinoy Pride XX in Davao City, dropping Melton Sandal twice enroute to a clinical first round knockout win.
This July 13, Magsayo will be one of the special attractions in the highly-anticipated "Pinoy Pride XXI: When Worlds Collide" fightcard at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Pasay City.
The event is topbilled by ALA world champion Merlito 'Tiger' Sabillo (22-0, 11KOs), who will defend his WBO minimumweight title for the first time against Colombian challenger Jorle Jacinto Estrada (16-6, 5KOs).
ALA Promotions has succeeded in putting the Philippines on the boxing map by showcasing young fighters into multi-titled world champions. Expected to be the future star of Phl boxing, Magsayo hopes to make an impression in his first ring appareance on a bigger stage.
