Registration to the third edition of the BE Warrior 50K Ultramarathon set September 29,2013 is now ongoing in a new registration center, A Runner’s Circle (ARC) at Raintree Mall, Ramos St. The race was originally designed by FrontRunner Magazine’s Jonel Mendoza to enable newbies to finish an ultra. The distance proved popular to would-be ultramarathoners as it’s not as strenuous or grueling like a 65K or 80K or even a 100K ultra. In fact, if you’re a marathoner all you need is to train for an extra 8km. The route for this year’s Warrior 50K will still be the same. It starts at BE Resort in Mactan cross the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, turn right to Cansaga, straight to Liloan Church, then turn at the International Pharmaceuticals Inc. (IPI) ware house in Compostela while tracing the same route back to BE Resort, for the finish. BE Resort under GM Garry Garcia, himself an ultra runner, said they are continuing sponsorship of the race which is the first 50km ultra in Cebu.
Celtics rebuild
It’s sad to see the likes of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry and yes Coach Doc Rivers leave a legendary club which is the winningest in NBA history. Yes, but there must always be a change. Well, old age has really taken it’s toll on the Celtics. It seems the Celtics core could no longer last the distance thus, rebuilding is now in order. But what’s the latest on Rajon Rondo? Heared he’s on the trading list too. So the Celtics will now have a core composed of Jeff Green, Avery Bradley , Jared Sullinger and the 7- foot Kelly Olynyk, a first round draftee from Gonzaga. In return for Pierce, Garnett and Terry, who were all shipped to the Nets, the Celtics will get Gerald Wallace, Kris Joseph, Kris Humphries and first round picks in 2014,2016 and 2018. Let’s watch out for the Celtics in the next two years.
ELVIS ON TOUR
By the way, I’ll be missing the BE Warrior 50K as I am off to an American odyssey this September but I’m leaving the race with much able persons in Jonel and Garry who pitched in for me in the S2N 250 Ultra last month. My siblings already made my itinerary. After singing in the wedding of my niece Kaye in San Francisco, I’m off to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the much-awaited Memphis, Tenn.,where I’m excited to visit Graceland. Then it’s back to New York City where my brother Doc Jun and sister Eloise reside. Doc Jun already registered me in a 10k run in Central Park and got me a ticket to Broadway’s The Phantom of the Opera. Then finally, Elvis gets to jam with Joe Custudio’s band.
