Cortes airsoft tourney kicks off

CEBU, Philippines - Ten local teams participated yesterday in the two-day “4th Mayor Jonas Cortes Invitational Airsoft Tournament” held at the old Mandaue City Public Market.

Dubbed as, “Battle of the Ruins,” the competition was hosted by the two-time national champion Mandaue Airsoft Group (MAG) headed by its president Paul Vincent Sepra.

“I know all of you are eager to win the games…I hope you will be humble in defeat and gracious in victory. Losing is not the end it is a challenge for you to improve your focus, discipline and strategy,” said Mayor Cortes in his message read by his executive secretary Atty. Jamaal James Calipayan.

Airsoft allows immense workout and improves self-discipline and focus since one has to operate under set of rules and conduct, Cortes added.

Airsoft is a war simulation using replica firearms and spherical non-metallic pellets and emulate tactical equipment and accessories used by modern military and police organizations.

It originated in Japan in the late 1070s and spread to Hong Kong and China then in the Philippines. (Mandaue News Service) (FREEMAN)
