CEBU, Philippines - Over 60 teams are raring to plunge into action as the 13th Cebu Inter-Club Football Cup unfolds today simultaneously at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City and the Cebu City Sports Center.
The tournament, organized by the Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) in partnership with the Queen City United (QCU), features seven categories, the men's and ladies open, 40-above, boys 18, 15, 13 and 11-under.
A dozen teams split into two groups are seeing action in the men's open where the champion will take home a P40,000 bounty.
Slugging it out in group A are the powerhouse QCU, ERCO, San Roque FC, Cebu Koream FC, Danao and the visiting Hijos del Pueblo of San Carlos City. Pooled under group B are the host CAFC, UC-Nigerian, Hiroshi FC, Samba, DBU FC and the Mactan Camellanz United.
The men's open division will be played at the Cebu City Sports Center as well as the men's 40-above and 18-under, while the rest of the games will be staged at the Aboitiz pitch.
Only four squads will vie for top honors in the ladies open. These are the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, CTU FC, Samba and the University of San Carlos.
The 15 and 13-under classes drew nine entries each, while eight teams will battle for supremacy in the 11-under. (FREEMAN)
