CEBU, Philippines - Undefeated ALA Boxing Gym mainstay Melvin Gumban punched his way to a unanimous decision victory over Fernando Ocon in the main event of the ALA-Cobra:‘Tunay na Lakas Boxing’ the other night at the Mandaue City Plaza Square.
The 23-year-old Gumban, thus, stretched his clean slate to 14-0 spiked with 6KOs, while Gumban fell to 10-4.
From the onset, Gumban proved to be the more tactical fighter, wisely using his jabs and accurate combinations to neutralize Ocon.
In the second round, Gumban dropped Ocon to the canvass with a crushing right straight. Ocon though quickly got up and continue the fight.
From that point on, Gumban dictated the pace of the match that earned him the nod of the three judges. The official scores were 97-92, 95-94 and 96-93.
In the supporting bouts, another ALA stalwart Juren Labordo knocked out Rowell Garcia at 2:30 of the second round, while Renante Suacasa won via third round TKO against Rey Morales, who was forced to withdraw because of an arm injury.
Lito Dante demolished Rez Padrogane in the fifth round,Boholano Bryan Lobitania easily disposed Rocky Alvarez in the second round, while Albert Villacampa outpointed Pedro Balaba in their eight-round duel. (FREEMAN)
