CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) contender Vaughn ‘Spawn’ Donayre kept his unbeaten record intact after scraping through a split decision win over veteran striker Rex ‘T-Rex’ De Lara in the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC)-Unrivaled the other night at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
Thus, the pride of Yaw-Yan ArDigma-DEFTAC Cebu is now primed for a title shot being the No.1 contender to the URCC lightweight throne that will be vacated by Honorio Banario, the reigning One Fighting Championship (ONE FC) featherweight champion.
De Lara, who is known for his excellent boxing style, proved to be a tough customer to handle for Donayre, but the 30-year-old Cebuano fighter used his excellent ground control and sharp knee strikes to score points against his girtty opponemt.
“Hopefully, after this victory, I can finally get a shot at the URCC title or to fight in a bigger stage like the ONE FC,†said Donayre.
It was Donayre's third straight victory this year. He pulled off a second round stoppage of Allan Atup in “the URCC Cebu 8–Survival†last January 9 at the J Centre Mall Convention Center, then came up with a smashing first round knockout of Baguio’s Robert Buminaang in the 'URCC-Unleashed' last March 2 at the Baguio Convention Center.
