P50Tat stake in BCLP bowlfest

CEBU, Philippines - A total of P50,000 in cash prize is at stake for the winners of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines (BCLP)-Cebu City Chapter Bowling Tournament this Sunday at the SM City-Cebu Bowling Centre. Game time  is set at 8:30 am.

Over 600 players spread into 104 teams of six members each will compete in the one-day tilt, which is being held in conjunction with the 1st BCLP-Cebu City Chapter General Assembly scheduled at 5 pm of the same day at the SM Trade Hall. 

Aside from medals, the champion team will receive P12,000, while the second and third placers will pocket P9,000 and P6,000, respectively. The fourth and fifth will take home P4,800 and P4,200.

The sixth to 10th finishers will get P3,600, P3,000, P2,400, P1,800 and P1,200.

On the other hand, the top three bowlers who will come up with the highest individual score will rerceive P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000.

The organizers will be handing out an additional P4,000 for the "Turkey Award" or for a team that can make three strikes in a row.

Before the tournament proper, a simple opening ceremony will take place to be graced by BCLP National President Franklyn O. Ong and Executive Vice President Reynaldo C. Zamora.

Meanwhile, the members of the working committee for the said event are The Freeman newswriter Garry B. Lao for program, Reynaldo Zamora and Rex Y. Millan for food and drinks, Jonilo C. Yap, Mark Jones N. De la Cruz and Joel O. Sadaya for general services, Rey M. Francisco, Sidney A. Tabucal, Eduardo G. Cabulao, Sr. and Oliver E. Ocampo for production, Jonilo C. Yap and Reynald C. Lauron for finance and Eusebia A. Eslanan, Joan E. Babayson, Oliver E. Ocampo and Raffy C. Briones for secretariat and registration.

Aside from being a public servant, Raffy Briones of Brgy. Tinago is also a champion coach, having steered the University of the Visayas (UV) to a historic back-to-back national championships in the men's division of the 16th Nestea Beach Volley last April 18-20 in Boracay Island. He also propelled UV to the women's title in the same prestigious competition seven years ago.  (FREEMAN)
