Talisay beach volley tourney unfurls tomorrow

CEBU, Philippines - Some of Cebu's top spikers are all set for action in the Talisay City Beach Volley Invitational starting tomorrow at the city's Liberation Park in Brgy. Poblacion.

A total of six schools have already confirmed their participation in the thee-day tilt led by reigning CESAFI champion University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF in the women's division. The rest of the contenders are the University of San Carlos (USC), University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Southwestern University (SWU) and the University of Cebu (UC).

Slugging it out for supremacy in the men's bracket are SWU, USC, USPF, USJ-R and the University of the Visayas.

The tournament follows a single round robin format, with the top two teams in each division advancing into the championship that will be played on March 26 yet after the commemoration of the historic "Takas sa Talisay".

The champions will take home P5,000 each, while the second and third will receive P3,000 and P1,000, respectively.

More than the cash prizes though, the participants will make use of the event to fine-tune their skills for

Visayas qualifying of the Nestea Beach Volley on March 22-23 in the southern Cebu town of Moalboal. (FREEMAN)
