CEBU, Philippines - Five Cebuano jins will form part of the elite pool of athletes that will represent the Philippines in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Taekwondo Championships on May 9-11 in Myanmar.
Asian Juniors Taekwondo Championship campaigner Rinna Babanto, Moses Bullicer of CIT, Miguel Calamba of USC, Nichole Maurin and Maegan Bugarin of STC made it to the Phl team due to their remarkable performance during the national team tryouts and evaluation held in Manila last month.
The five are currently in deep training under the guidance of coach Avenger Alob and national team veteran Glenn Lava. They will join the rest of the Phl squad in Manila as soon as their classes will end.
An impressive showing in Myanmar may earn them a ticket to the Asian Junior Championships in Jakarta or to the World Championships in Bali, Indonesia later this year.
Right after the ASEAN tilt, they will be joining world poomsae champion Mikeala Calamba and Glenn Lava in Manila for an intensive training under visiting Korean coach Master Jeong.
Calamba is skipping the Myanmar event to focus on the Asian Junior Championships in June as well as the World Championships in December. (FREEMAN)
