SHS-Ateneo, UV, CEC make finals in ThreeSixty cagefest

CEBU, Philippines - Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and the University of the Visayas scored contrasting wins on the way to seal a championship clash in the Under 13 division of the ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup 2013: CYBL 6 at games played SHS-AdC Mango Campus Gym. Cebu Eastern College also grabbed the last bus to the finals of the Under 16 division.

Top seed SHS-AdC went hot and cold before scraping out a 38-35 win over fourth seed University of San Carlos. Leading by as many as 10 points in the first half, SHS-AdC caved in to a furious USC end-game rally that saw the Baby Warriors take a 35-34 lead on a ZJ Enriquez basket with less than two minutes left in the game.

Carlos Canoy then scored off a jumper to give SHS-AdC back the lead 36-35 before Andre Chua stole a pass and laid it in for the final count.

In the other semis game, second seed UV repeated its mastery over third seed CEC via a 45-27 win. UV took over from the get go and never looked back.

Second seed CEC recovered in the Under 16 division semifinals as it outran third seed SHS-AdC 1, 54-43, to arrange a showdown with defending champion UV.

CEC used a big first period start to set the tone for the game and was never threatened until a brief but futile rally from the Magis Eagles.

Meanwhile, USJR grabbed third place in the Under 10 age group as it nipped USC South, 22-21.

In Division B games, it will be Southwestern University facing off against USC South-B in the championship of the Under 13 division as SWU beat Forum, 51-18, and USC South-B overcoming CEC-B, 37-31 in the crossover semifinals.

In the Under 16 Division B, it will be a replay of last year’s championship as UV-B faces Don Bosco-B anew. UV-B ousted USC South-B, 47-35, while Don Bosco-B outscored the CVIRAA Grade School team, 68-53.

In the lone game that kicked off play in the Under 19 age group, USPF surprised defending champions Adgers Sportswear.  (FREEMAN)
