CEBU, Philippines - Dimsum Frito 2003 banked on the deadly combo of Winston Tan and Joey Catipay to fend off Young Builders ‘91, 55-49, and stay unbeaten after three games in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Tan finished with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Catipay banged in 14 markers on top of 11 rebounds and three steals for Class 2003, which dictated the pace of the match after taking a 31-24 lead at halftime.
Class '91 pulled within two points after three quarters, 36-38, but Class 2003 fought steadier down the homestretch to escape with a five-point win.
Emerson Go scored 14 on top of 10 rebounds but couldn't make any difference as Class '91 slumped to its sixth loss in eight games.
Earlier, Rex Millan pumped in 19 points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds as 3R Audio '98 prolonged the misery of Fil-Ann 2009, 72-63.
Erick Andrew So chipped in 17 points and six rebounds for Class '98, which used a crippling 36-21 rally in the middle quarters to blow off the youngest graduates.
Paul Timothy So added 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Class '98, while Elvis Evangelista also added 13 points on top of six rebounds as they evened their win-loss record to 4-4.
Alfie Dwight Miranda Sy and Harold James Tan each charted 21 points, even as they allso connived for 13 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Their efforts, however, were to no avail as Class 2009 slipped to 1-5.
