CEBU, Philippines - New Millennium Hardware '95 and The First Family Appliance Circle '96 stormed to their sixth straight wins in as many starts in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Tuesday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Class '95 kept its unbeaten record intact with a 60-41 bashing of Fil-Ann 2009, while Class '96 also stayed clean after a 65-56 whacking of 3R Audio '98.
The indefatigable Donald Anthony Ting churned out 20 points on top of six rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks in an awesome display of hardcourt versatility for Class '95. Edison Ho chipped in a season high 10 points and three rebounds.
Dean Dy Teves and Joseph James Yu connived for 13 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and four blocks for Class '95, which was in complete command after taking an early 15-7 lead. After closing the first half at 29-16, Class '95 sustained its momentum in the remaining two quarters to come up with a 19-point romp.
Alfie Dwight Miranda Sy had 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists, but got no ample support from the rest of his teammates as Class 2009 tasted its fourth loss in five starts.
In the main game, Class '96 showed an admirable teamwork, with four players submitting twin figures led by Franklin Neil Ong with 14 points, four steals, four assists and three rebounds.
Rex Alinson added 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Dreyfuss Ang banged in 10 points on top of nine assists, eight rebounds and five steals for Class '96, which used a decisive rally in the first half to whip Class '98.
Shaun Christopher Wang was the other bright spot for Class '96 with 10 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. They kept Class '98 at bay after jumping off to a sizzling 19-9 start, which they parlayed into a comfortable 52-35 edge after three quarters.
Paul Timothy So and Robinson Yap each scored 18, even as they also combined for 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals, but their efforts were to no avail as Class '98 slipped to 3-4.
