Class ‘96 tallies fourth straight win in CECABA

CEBU, Philippines - Franklin Neil Ong charted 16 points and Dreyfuss Ang scored 11 and dished out the same number of 11 assists as the First Family Appliance Circle '96 stormed to its fourth straight win with a 62-54 whacking of Argentina Corned Beef '84/87/90 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Sunday at the CEC gym.

Rogelio Donayre banged in 10 points, four assists and three steals for Class '96. Donayre and Ang connived for 16 points in a sizzling endgame assault that helped Class '96 turned the tables on the Argentina Corned Beef-backed squad at the final buzzer.

Class '96 trailed by four at halftime, 21-25, but found its offensive bearing in the third period to wrest the driver's seat, 38-37. Class '96 then outgunned Class '84/87/90 in the final 10 minutes of play, 24-17, to firm up its grip of the solo lead with a clean 4-0 slate.

Paul Michael Cabellon topped Class '84/87/90 with  16 points and four rebounds. Star center Sammy Sia pumped in 13 points and 12 rebounds to no avail as they crashed to their second straight loss.

On the other hand, former CDC (now CDU) varsity star Wellington Yu unloaded 15 points and hauled 16 caroms as Las Vegas KTV-M16 Disco '94 demolished Young Builders '91, 51-31, for its third win against a solitary loss.

Kenneth Kwan netted all his 12 points from the 3-point land, while Stanley Gaw cashed in 11 markers spiked with four rebounds for Class '94, which held off Class '91 to only two points in the first quarter while hitting 21 to set up the tone for its masterful 20-point blowout.

Tommy Yu was the lone double-digit scorer with 12 points on top of seven rebounds, three steals and two assists for Class '91, which suffered its fourth setback in five starts.
