B.C. Hortelano Open chessfest at Colonnade

CEBU, Philippines - Over P10,000 in cash prize is stake for the winners of the B.C. Hortelano & Co. Open Chess Tournament this weekend at the Colonnade Mall Activity Center along Colon Street, this city.

The champion of the two-day tilt organized by the Cebu Chess Association (CCA) will take home P5,000, while the second and third placers will pocket P3,000 and P1,000, respectively. The fourth to 10th placers will receive a consolation prize of P200 each.

The tournament follows a 7-round Swiss system format. The games on Sunday will start at 2 pm yet to give the paticipants a chance to watch the highly-anticipated fourth showdown of Filipino ring superstar Manny Pacquiao and Mexican punching dynamo Juan Manuel Marquez.

The event is sponsored by by Benjamin C. Hortelano, a Certified Public Accountant who is keen on promoting the famous European boardgame in Cebu.
