ANS-Pomeroy tames City Olympics champ

CEBU, Philippines - The Abellana National School-Pomeroy Futbolitos kicked off their title campaign with a 1-0 victory over Cebu City Olympics champion Don Bosco Technology Center in the 1st Cebu City Sports Center Football Friendship Games billed as 'Champion’s League' yesterday at the CCSC pitch.

Kevin Delantes delivered ANS-Pomeroy’s lone goal at the 64th to the dismay of the Bosconians, who were backed up by players from the University of Southern Philippine Foundation (USPF).

Cebu City's elementary bets, composed mostly of Don Bosco players, could only salvage a 2-all draw with Team Warshocz in the opener.

In the other elementary division match, Mandaue City silenced Danao selection, 3-0. Leo Maquiling knocked in a pair of goals at the second and 24th, while Angelo Colina found the back of the net at the 18th.

In the secondary battle, Mandaue pulled off a masterful 5-0 triumph over the Cebu Province represented by players from Don Bosco Boys Home of Liloan.

Mandaue, manned by booters from the Mandaue Technical Institute and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, proved too much for Cebu Province to handle in all departments.

Dexter Espiritu sank two goals for Mandaue, while the rest were produced by Miguel Kwan, Mateo Canlas, and Kiko Villamor.

The two-day tilt, organized by CCSC manager Ricky Ballesteros, serves as the final tuneup of Cebu football teams for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet slated next month in Dumaguete City. (FREEMAN)
