MANILA, Philippines - Teams from Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC), the most decorated squad during the last Aboitiz Cup, met contrasting fates at the start of the 15th edition of Cebu’s longest and best-run football tournament yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
DBTC-B, the defending champion, cruised to a dominating 5-1 victory over Dinamo South to share the early lead in group B of boys 12 division with Guiseppe, which opened its quest with a 2-0 whacking of Holy Infant School of Lapu-Lapu City.
In group A, Cebu International School (CIS) got off to a flying start courtesy of a 2-0 shutout of Children’s Paradise Montesorri School.
It wasn't all a good start though for the Bosconians as they faltered in the boys 14 category. DBTC-1 was outsmarted by Canduman FC, 2-1, in group A, while its team 2 settled for a 1-all draw with Subangdaku FC.
Canduman was joined in the winners' circle by PAREF-Springdale-A, which pulled off a 3-2 squeaker over the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.
In boys 14 group B, the University of San Carlos-BED hacked out a 2-0 win over SHS-AdC-B.
DBTC suffered more drawbacks in the players 10 with two of its teams losing their respective battles. DBTC-2 bowed to St.John-Kenty, while DBTC-3 fell prey to Bright Minds in Action Learning Village.
In players 8 action, CIS overpowered DBTC, 9-0, even as CMPS prolonged DBTC’s misery. In the other matches of the said age group, Canduman prevailed over St. John Kenty, 2-1, while USC-BED went too much for CIE, 6-0.
In the players 10, Dinamo FC whipped SHS-AdC-A, 3-0, Subangdaku and Holy Infant School fought to a 2-2 draw, Giuseppe dumped CIS, 5-1, while Canduman trounced CMPS, 10-0.
SHS-AdC bounced back in the players 6 by beating VEPS, 2-0, while Giuseppe coasted to a 2-0 crushing of CMPS. (FREEMAN)
