CEBU, Philippines — The new director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Central Visayas (TESDA-7) is planning to introduce higher-level national certificates to the Cebuano beneficiaries of its program.

Gamaliel Vicente Jr. who resumed as director of TESDA-7 after his short stint in TESDA-8 paid a courtesy call to Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, joined by TESDA Cebu Provincial Director Floro Ringca.

During his visit, Vicente said he looks forward to working again with the Cebu Provincial Government, especially with the implementation of the skill training program which the Capitol and TESDA have partnered with.

“We offer a higher level NCIII and NCIV that will keep the Cebuanos abreast with international standards,” Vicente said as reported by Sugbo News, Capitol’s news arm.

Sugbo Kahanas, a Capitol-funded program, gives training and national certificates to Cebuano beneficiaries, equipping them with knowledge and skills that qualify them to land skills-based jobs and allow them to seek livelihood opportunities.

The said program, with an initial ?100-million fund, has already benefited thousands of Cebuanos.

Vicente was transferred to Eastern Visayas last April 2023 to replace Ramon Evan Ruiz who was reassigned to TESDA Region 6 or Western Visayas.

Prior to Vicente’s transfer to Region 8, he was the director of TESDA-7 since January 2022. — (FREEMAN)
