CEBU, Philippines — At least four local government units in Central Visayas have received an award each from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) via the recently-concluded 10th Digital Governance Awards (DGA) at the National Museum in Manila.

These are the cities of Bogo, Cebu and Mandaue, and the Municipality of Loon in Bohol Province.

The event recognized the outstanding practices of LGUs that effectively deliver public services using innovative ICT tools, solutions, and approaches.

The DGA is a joint project between the DICT, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP).

Cebu City, Mandaue City, Bogo City and Loon town in Bohol were among the local government units all over the country that rose above the challenge to improve the standards of public service by leveraging the potential of ICT to provide clear, wider, and faster access to information.

Bogo City’s Smart City Project: Go Digital! Go Smart! was adjudged the Best in Customer Empowerment (G2C) Award for the city level beating Alaminos City’s Barangay Health Worker Information System and Quezon City’s QC eServices for the top spot.

Cebu City, for its part, got a bronze for the Government Interoperability (G2G) award-city level for its Centralized Payroll Information System.

The Municipality of Loon also landed third in G2G awards via the municipality level for their s eDITS (Electronic disbursement and invoice tracking system).

Mandaue City also got a bronze for the business empowerment (G2B) award-city level for its Citymap: Guiding the City towards Growth, innovation, and economic resiliency.

DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy urged the LGUs to prioritize the Filipino people in their every endeavor.

“Through digital governance projects, we enable mechanisms to amplify the voices of our people and empower them to actively participate in governance. Our aim is for the communities to take charge and define the course of their own development,” Uy said.

Meanwhile, DICT Undersecretary for e-Government David Almirol Jr. also invited LGUs to join and support the Department’s e-Governance initiatives, promoting data interconnectivity and ease of doing business.

“We are inviting our LGUs to migrate their system through our e-Gov super app to achieve a unified government, as envisioned by our President,” said Almirol. —/GMR (FREEMAN)
