Regional drug clearing body deliberates 87 Central Visayas barangays
CEBU, Philippines — The Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing held a deliberation yesterday until today, April 14, on applications for drug-cleared status candidates in Central Visayas.
There are 87 barangays throughout Central Visayas that will be deliberated by the oversight committee, which include 16 barangays in Bohol, 41 in Cebu Province, 22 in Negros Oriental and eight in Cebu City.
In Cebu City, the barangays are Budlaan, Kamagayan, Punta Princesa, Binaliw, Agsungot, Tabunan, Adlaon and Kalubihan.
Jonah John Rodriguez, head of the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP), is confident that the eight barangays will be declared drug-cleared.
Rodriguez admitted that it is not easy to declare a drug-cleared barangay since it goes through a rigorous process.
“I am very hopeful and we claim it kay base on experience duna naman tay 13 ka barangays nga mag-drug-cleared napun-an karon og walo, grabe ang preparasyon karon kontra sa niagi daghan ta og mga proseso gyud, atong gi see to it nga ang tanang documents nga gikinahanglan sa Regional Oversight Committee ma-comply gyud nato,” said Rodriguez.
These drug-cleared barangays are classified as affected by drugs in the past and have been subjected to a drug clearing operation and have been declared cleared of any illegal drug activities in accordance with the parameters set in the DBB Regulation Section 8 - parameters for drug declaration -cleared status of drug affected barangays.
If the barangay is declared drug-cleared, it does not mean that no drugs have entered or can enter.
Their Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils through the help of the local government units and law enforcement agencies will make sure that they do something to eliminate illegal activities.
Currently, Central Visayas has 1,444 drug-cleared barangays of which 610 are in Bohol Province, 541 in Cebu Province, 157 in Negros Oriental, 107 in Siquijor Province, 13 in Cebu City, six in Lapu-Lapu City and 10 in Mandaue City.
