CEBU, Philippines —  Two persons died in a vehicular accident involving a motorcycle along the Trancentral Highway, particularly in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban town, Cebu past 10 a.m. yesterday, February 25.

The fatalities were identified as Mark Harvey Tomarong, a resident of Zone 2, Purok Acacia, Barangay Biasong, Talisay City, and Rex Leo Mahusay Luste, a resident of Barangay Aliwanay, Balamban town.

Balamban police said the two were onboard a motorcycle with plate number 558GXE, and met the accident without another vehicle involved.

It was the barangay council of Cansomoroy that informed Balamban Police Station of the vehicular accident.

Following the report, police personnel were quickly dispatched to the site and the victims were then transported to Balamban Provincial Hospital by the town's rescue unit.

However, the two were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Balamban Police Station chief Lt. Col. Glenn Hife said that the victims were traversing the highway from Cebu City and were on their way to Balamban.

However, when they reached the accident site, which was a downhill area, the driver lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to ram into an acacia tree.

“Diha sa Barangay Cansomoroy nga area dulhugon na siya so possible wala nila ma-control ilahang motor na-overshoot sila deretso sila dasmag didto sa kilid”, said Hife.

Hife described the site as an accident-prone area as they have responded to vehicular accidents in the same place. In fact, some warning signs have been installed in the area.

Hife urged motorists to exercise caution all the time.

“Bisag asa pa kang lugara mag-amping gyud og mag-motor ka kay alkanse man gud ta mag-motor, duha ra kabuok ligid atoang gi-drive unya slow down gyud ta pirmi, especially sa ingon ana nga lugar nga accident prone area ba," he said.

Police had already informed the family of Tomarong regarding the unfortunate incident, while the parents of Luste already went to Balamban Police Station yesterday.  – JMD (FREEMAN)
