PWDs receive cash assistance
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government made sure that it is not only the senior citizens that are going to have a happy Christmas but also the persons with disabilities (PWD) as they finally got their financial assistance for the last two months of 2022 over the weekend.
Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS)’s Portia Basmayor said that there are 13,176 registered PWDs in the city.
Each of them got P2,000. This is for the months of November and December.
Those who were not able to get their financial aid over the weekend will have 10 days to claim it.
Most of the parents who were accompanying their PWD children said they will be using the money they received for food and clothing while some are for medicine and schooling.
Meanwhile, the city government, through the City Office for Substance Abuse and Prevention (COSAP), has handed over incentives to seven drug-cleared barangays.
Each of the barangays received P10,000. This came after the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) declared these villages to be drug-cleared.
The seven barangays include Basak Pardo, Buot Taup, Kinasang-an, Lusaran, San Antonio, Pamutan, and Parian.
“Naay documentary requirements, kay dili ka ma-declare nga drug-cleared kung katong naa sa watchlist, dili tanan all accounted for…. Kung wala na sila, dili makompleto ang naa sa watchlist, dili sila maka-vie for drug-cleared nga status,” said COSAP head Jonah John Rodriguez, via the city’s PIO.
In a related development, 10 more barangays are expected to be drug-cleared soon with the deliberation to start today.
“Karong Monday naay deliberation (sa Oversight Committee) nga maapil si Barangay Kalubihan. Mao niy ika-katorse na. Actually 10 man ning atong gi-target. Hopefully next year puhon madugangan na siya,” added Rodriguez.
So far, Cebu City has 13 drug-cleared barangays already. (FREEMAN)
