Cebu City receives post-typhoon aid from UNDP
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City has received assistance from the United Nations Development Program Typhoon Odette Recovery and Shield Mission.
According to a report by the Cebu City Public Information Office, apart from Cebu, there are other areas in the Philippines that will also be assisted by UNDP.
Some UNDP officials made a courtesy call recently to Mayor Michael Rama’s office.
The officials were UNDP Program Analyst Gwyneth Anne Palmos, Governance Specialist Jonathan Hodder, and Program Associate Paul Villarico.
During their visit, they had obtained initial information in preparation for the programs they would be undertaking such as garbage disposal, economic stuff, among others.
The development of the drainage system was also mentioned.
The mayor is very thankful that Cebu City is one of the UNDP’s choices.
On the other hand, Rama said that his love for his constituents has given him great strength in his service to them.
“This is the gamut of public service. This has been my stance since I started in public service 27 years ago. It’s about genuine love, the passion to serve, not for some motivation higher than working for people, your constituents,” Rama said.
He said that despite the challenges, it would never affect his great faith in God.
He would welcome the criticisms he received.
“Criticisms are good, if only they are brave and constructive, not hiding in animosity and pseudonyms. Critics who help us see the light, and who would use their passion to give flesh and realize with us their ideas are always welcome,” he added.
The mayor said that part of the recovery system is to put genuine motivation.
“Our road to recovery only needs to be powered by love and genuine motivation to serve. Tomorrow’s breakthrough, our eventual economic prosperity, the glory our city deserves can only be achieved if we all invest love,” the mayor noted. — GMR (FREEMAN)
