Labella issues EO allowing Talisay, Mandaue TPUJs in Cebu City
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has issued an executive order formally allowing entry of traditional public utility jeepneys (TPUJs) from the cities of Mandaue and Talisay in the city.
“The Cebu City Jeepney Task Force, after review and consultations, has recommended to allow more TPUJ routes to operate, specifically those coming from the Cities of Mandaue and Talisay and go to Cebu City and vice versa,” Executive Order No. 122 read.
Stated in the EO are the additional TPUJ routes in the Balik Pasada Program.
For Talisay City-Cebu City inter-city routes are the 41D, Tabunok-Cebu City (via V. Rama-Taboan); and 42D, Poblacion Talisay-Cebu City (via V. Rama-Taboan).
For Mandaue City-Cebu City inter-city routes are 20A, Ibabao-Ayala; 20B, Ouano-Ayala; 21A and 21B, Ibabao-Manalili; 22A and 22B, Ouano-Manalili; and 22I, Ibabao - Country Mall.
Labella earlier said he agreed to allow the entry of TPUJs from Talisay and Mandaue because he felt the need not only of the commuters for more transportation but also of the drivers to earn a living.
“I also observed the need for additional transportation facilities for our commuters, especially that we have opened up so there will be more transportation facilities, provided they will comply with the minimum health requirements,” he said.
The mayor appealed to the TPUJ drivers to strictly observe the health protocols and the guidelines set by the different agencies, stating that Cebu City Transportation Office was instructed to monitor their compliance.
Labella warned that those who will be caught violating the rules and regulations will be banned entry to Cebu City.
Since October last year, the city has gradually allowed TPUJs to resume operations. — GMR (FREEMAN)
