Online petition for President Marcos resignation launched

CEBU, Philippines — Members of Hakbang ng Maisug Cebu, who considered themselves as defenders of the Republic and the Constitution, launched a signature campaign via www.change.org. aimed at calling for the resignation of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The title of the petition, “Bongbong Marcos, Resign Now!”, so far, has gathered 1,067 verified signatures as of 7 o'clock last night, shortly a few hours after it was created.

“The Filipino People have withdrawn their support for the president of the Republic of the Philippines, Bongbong Marcos. We call on all Filipinos all over the world to sign this petition and commit to action what they are clamoring in their hearts. This is what abrogating our country's sovereignty looks like. Bongbong Marcos, you have betrayed us,” the petition read.

According to one of the convenors of Hakbang ng Maisug Cebu, the group is just gathering signatures for future use.

“Naa ra unya nay gamit, as of now, we just want to gather more signatures,” said the co-convenor, who opted not to be named.

The co-convenor said that the group's initiative is a legitimate petition posted under the platform of www.change.org, and he urged everyone to sign it.

Meanwhile, a petition launched by social media influencer Sass Rogado Sasot titled, “Rage Against the Deception of the World! Free the Asian, Filipino Duterte!”, has already gained 462,281 verified signatures as of 7 o'clock last night.

Duterte is facing allegations of murder as a crime against humanity in connection with his administration's war on drugs. He is currently in prison in The Hague, Netherlands. — JG (FREEMAN)
