CEBU, Philippines — The new identification card for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Cebu City is now being processed, said Mayor Raymond Garcia.
A sample of the new ID is expected to arrive next month, Garcia said.
“That is something nga among gihunahuna. Ang importante nga nasugdan na’g process,” he said.
The new PWD ID will each have its own QR (quick response) code that is made of PVC, or similar to an ATM (automated teller machine) or a credit card.
The PWD ID will be connected to the City Government’s IT (information technology) system for easy verification and validation.
“We are also thinking nga in the future nga tingali atong mga PWDs hatagan nalang nato mahug mura’g ATM card pud. Kay para inigpanghatag sa financial assistance dili na kinahanglang moadto pa sa City Hall or dili na molinya sa inyong tagsa-tagsa ka barangay,” he added.
Aside from the PWDs, the City Government is also looking into changing the current senior citizen’s identification card.
This is to prevent the proliferation of fake PWD or senior citizen ID cards, the mayor said.
Meanwhile, a ceremonial turnover of wheelchairs was done on Saturday, March 15, to the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS), the City’s Public Information Office reported.
"Malipayon ko nga naa na tay mga wheelchairs nangabot nga ready na siya for distribution, house to house," the PIO reported, quoting Garcia.
Earlier, PWDs also got their financial assistance from the City Government.
Each registered PWD in the City will receive P1,000 thousand, or P12,000 for the whole year. — / JG (FREEMAN)
