Capitol distributes P93.3-million in subsidies to 5th district LGUs

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia handed over the checks to the towns and a city in the fifth district, amounting to P93.3 million.

The financial subsidies were distributed to the mayors, vice mayors, and councilors, including barangay officials, during the Capitol's Caravan of Services in the town of Catmon on Feb. 21.

Of the P93.3 million, P15. 2 million was given to Borbon town, with the Office of the Mayor receiving P8.6 million, the Vice Mayor receiving P3 million, and the municipal council having P2.7 million.

For the town of Carmen, the total amount given was P15.2 million. The Office of Mayor’s share was P8.6 million, Vice Mayor was P3 million, and the council got P2.7 million. Three barangays also shared the P900,000 financial subsidy.

For the town of Compostela, the Office of the Mayor received P8.6 million, the Vice Mayor got P3 million, and the municipal council had P3.3 million for their projects.

For the City of Danao, P3.6 million was given to Councilor Miguel Magpale for his projects, while the P1.2 million was divided by four city barangays.

In the town of Liloan, the P15.5 million was also divided by the Office of the Mayor (P8.6 million), Vice Mayor (P3 million), municipal council (P3.3 million), and the three barangays shared the P900, 000.

As to the town of Sogod, the Office of the Mayor received P5.6 million, the Vice Mayor got P3 million, the municipal council was given P2.7 million, and three barangays received P900,000 to be shared equally, totaling P12.2 million.

Aside from the mainland local government units (LGUs) in the fifth district, the towns in the Camotes Group of Islands also received their share of financial subsidy from the Capitol.

The Capitol Information Office said the town of Pilar received P15.2 million, P14.6 million for Poro, P15.5 million for Tudela, and P14.9 million for San Francisco, which totaled P60.2 million.

The checks were given by Garcia during the caravan of services of Cebu Province in Camotes on Feb. 18.

Garcia told the concerned local officials to use the funds wisely for their intended infrastructure projects, as these funds are subject to strict auditing rules and regulations of the Commission on Audit (COA), to ensure that these were utilized for the intended projects.

Aside from giving financial assistance to the LGUs, Garcia and other Capitol officials also led the inauguration and groundbreaking of several infrastructure initiatives in Camotes Islands.

Among these projects were the inauguration of the P2.8 million two-story barangay hall of Barangay Union, the groundbreaking of the P6.3 million “Hapitanan sa Sugbo”, and the inauguration of the  P2.8 million ABC Building, all in the town of San Francisco.
