Daan is new PB member

CEBU, Philippines — The new member of the Cebu Provincial Board finally took her oath yesterday.

Kathleen Daan, 50, took her oath as board member of Cebu Province before Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, witnessed by her husband Talisay City councilor Lester Daan and Mayor Samsam Gullas.

Board Members Glenn Soco, Mike Villamor, and Cesar Baricuatro, DILG-7 assistant director Ian Kenneth Lucero and DILG Cebu director Jesus Robel Sastrillo were also present during the simple ceremony.

She replaced late board member Yolanda "Yolly" Daan who passed away November last year.

Serving the constituents in the 1st District is not new to Kathleen, although she is not a seasoned politician, as she was with the office of the board member in the 1st District since 2000, during the time of late board member Julian "Teban Escudero" Daan until Yolly's term.

Kathleen vowed to continue all the programs and projects her in-laws have started. She said the former or late board members had already appropriated equal funds to the different barangays in the district, ensuring equal benefits among the constituents in the district from the office of the board member.

"Sa una pa gyud, panahon pa ni papa (Teban), bahinon na g'yud na niya ang iyang LAF sa 130 ka mga barangays sa district. Mao sad na ang gihimo ni mama," Kathleen said.

Kathleen will serve as board member in the district until June this year, when the current legislators end their term, and newly-elected officials will sit as new members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. — (FREEMAN)
