Tourism sector urged: Promote Cebu, country as MCIA opens new runway
CEBU, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called on tourism industry stakeholders to renew efforts in promoting Cebu and the Philippines, following the inauguration of Mactan-Cebu International Airport’s (MCIA) alternate runway on Thursday, January 30.
Highlighting the critical role of airports and connectivity infrastructure in national growth, President Marcos underscored their impact on business, tourism, and diplomatic relations.
“Sabihin mo na lang walang airport, paano tayo? Maiwanan tayo ng buong mundo. You cannot be part of the global community and the global economy if you do not have connectivity. So, that’s what airports serve,” the President said during the event.
The President emphasized that strong connectivity not only enhances public services and business operations but also fortifies international partnerships and alliances. He urged tourism industry leaders to seize the opportunity to showcase the best of Cebu and the Philippines to the world.
“To our partners in the tourism industry, led of course by the – as described by the Governor (Gwendolyn Garcia) ‘the pride of Cebu’ – this is your chance to showcase once again and even more the best of Cebu and, with that, the best of the Philippines,” Marcos stated.
Addressing the business community, the President expressed optimism that the newly inaugurated runway would open doors to global markets and attract significant investments.
“This brings forth more opportunities to enter global markets and to attract greater investments,” he noted.
Marcos also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing and expanding the country’s airport infrastructure. He stressed that improved connectivity translates to increased opportunities for Filipinos and fosters national progress.
“The inauguration of a new alternate runway at MCIA is just a ‘snapshot’ of all the exciting things to come,” he said.
Moreover, the President called on Filipinos to set aside differences and work towards shared goals for the common good. He underscored that infrastructure advancements like this demonstrate what can be achieved through unity and collaboration.
With the latest development at MCIA, stakeholders anticipate enhanced air traffic efficiency and a significant boost in tourism and economic activities in Cebu and beyond.
