CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial School Board (PSB) has approved the P3.9 million budget for the upcoming Cebu Provincial Sports and Cultural Festival, which will take place in February.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who chairs the PSB, approved the budget request submitted by Cebu Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Senen Paulin during their meeting on Jan. 28.
The budget will fund the food and uniforms of 1,410 personnel who will manage the entire event, including the working committee.
The Department of Education (DepEd) will also shoulder the other P3.7 million budget for other expenses for the event.
The upcoming event will have 24 different sports categories and 10 cultural competitions that will be joined by over 16, 000 participants, including athletes, students, coaches, technical staff, and committee members from the 44 local government units in Cebu.
Paulin said the number of participants for this year’s sport and cultural activity is three-fold from last year’s over 6,000 participants, with more student-athletes joining this year and better preparations made.
In addition, the mayors also played a role in encouraging more participants to join the event this year.
“They have been encouraged, and let us also take note nga kining participation nila is endorsed ni sa ilang mayor. Meaning to say, their mayor even is interested,” Paulin said, as per Sugbo News, Capitol’s news arm.
In the sports events, those who will win the sports tournament will represent Cebu Province in the upcoming Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA). — /JG (FREEMAN)
