PRO-7 has new regional director

CEBU, Philippines — The Police Regional Office 7 has a new regional director. Police Brigadier General Redrico Atienza Maranan assumed his post as the highest ranking official of PRO 7 on Tuesday, January 14. He is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Patnubay Class of 1995.

In his speech, Maranan emphasized his deep connection to Central Visayas, having previously served as an intelligence officer in Cebu City.

His extensive experience includes leadership roles in the Anti-Vice Squad, Theft and Robbery Unit, Illegal Drugs Operative, and Investigation Unit at the Cebu City Police Office.

“Your dedication to service and commitment to safeguarding the region inspires me. Together, we will uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline. As I embark on this new journey, I will bring with me the gauge, learnings, and experiences from QCPD and PRO3," Maranan said in a statement posted in his Facebook page.

Maranan has served as the regional director of PRO 3, district director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) under the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), chief of the PNP-Public Information Office and deputy district director for operations at QCPD.

With a broad background as a field-grade officer, he has served in various capacities, including the Aviation Security Group, Police Regional Office CALABARZON, Southern Police District, CCPO and PRO-5 in the Bicol Region.

He, likewise, shared his guiding principle, which is “Makabagong Pulis Sa Makabagong Panahon. Respetado ang Mamamayan, Disiplinado ang Kapulisan," that aligned with the Chief PNP’s mantra: “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Ang Gusto ng Pulis Ligtas Ka.”

"Our goal remains clear: a modernized, disciplined, and respected police force. We will enhance police presence through quick response time and implement effective measures against drugs, crime, and private armed groups—laying the foundation for a safe and secure Region 7,” Maranan said

He added that by reinforcing police visibility and responsiveness, understanding the challenges, and cultivating public trust, PRO 7will provide safety and protection to its citizens.

As PRO 7 prepares for the Sinulog 2025 celebrations and the upcoming National and Local Elections in May, Maranan highlighted the importance of working closely with local government units, partner agencies, and communities in Central Visayas.

This collaboration, he said, aims to ensure safety, effective policing, crime prevention, and disaster response.

Maranan said under his leadership, the PRO 7 strives to be a beacon of peace and security, where every citizen feels safe and protected by a competent and service-oriented police force. — /JG (FREEMAN)
