CEBU, Philippines — Residential consumers of Visayan Electric will enjoy a P0.25 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) rate reduction for the January to February billing cycle, the utility company announced.
This decrease brings the total electricity rate down to P11.26 per kWh, providing savings of up to P50.00 for households consuming 200 kWh per month.
In a statement, Visayan Electric attributed the lower rates to the reduction in electricity prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), which resulted in decreased generation costs.
This marks the second consecutive month of lower electricity rates for Visayan Electric customers.
Despite the reduction, the company reminded consumers to remain conscious of their energy consumption.
“Now that the holiday season is over, it is essential to remove and safely store Christmas decorations, especially those that use electricity, to save energy,” said Raul Lucero, Visayan Electric President and Chief Operating Officer.
The utility company also urged households to prioritize safety during the Sinulog festivities by unplugging appliances to avoid potential electrical hazards while they are away.
Visayan Electric is the second-largest power distributor in the Philippines, serving a substantial portion of the Visayas region. – /FPL (FREEMAN)
