CEBU, Philippines — Three centenarians from different cities in southern Cebu received P100,000 each from the Cebu provincial government.
Governor Gwen Garcia personally handed the checks to three centenarians from Carcar City and Talisay City last December 17, during the Caravan of Government Services held at Minglanilla Municipal Complex.
Profiria Alcorcon and Flora Tanudra Aledon both from Carcar City and Vicente Adlawan Restauro from Talisay City received the cash aid from the Capitol, meant as appreciation for their long years of service and contributions to their respective communities.
Alcorcon, Aledon, and Restauro were all born sometime in November 1924, according to Sugbo News, Capitol’s official media arm.
It was added that the secret to their long lives is maintaining a proper diet, which includes eating healthy foods, such as corn, utan bisaya, and fish.
Aside from the financial incentive, the centenarians also received adult wheelchairs and ABAG Sugbo QR-coded cards. Such cards entitle them to free medical checkups and medicines in any of the 16 Capitol-run hospitals.
Their guardians were also awarded with certificates of entitlement for the Sugbo Kahanas, ensuring them slots in the Capitol’s technical and vocational skills training program.
Additionally, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 also gave assistance through food packs and an additional P2,000 cash each, while the Department of the Interior and Local (DILG)-7 gave slippers and five kilos of rice to the centenarians. — (FREEMAN)
