Garcia vows insurance for barangay peacekeepers

CEBU, Philippines — After promising insurance to delivery and habal-habal riders, Cebu City Mayor Raymond Garcia has also extended the offer to members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT).

Garcia made the announcement during the BPAT’s seminar and workshop at Cebu City Hall, according to the City’s Public Information Office (PIO).

Garcia, who will personally shoulder the insurance costs, said this was his way of expressing gratitude to the BPAT team for their service to Cebu City as force multipliers of the City’s police force.

“Dako kaayo ko pasalamat sa inyong serbisyo diri sa atong pinalanggang siyudad sa Sugbo,” Garcia said.

He pledged to provide the BPAT members with insurance coverage worth P100,000 plus P20,000 for hospitalization, the same coverage he promised to delivery and habal-habal riders.

Garcia stated that he had already instructed his team to gather the names of BPAT members for their insurance cards.

“Makaasa mo nga ako ra nga klase nga mayor nga maghunahuna para ninyo. Nangayo diay mo nako’g Christmas bonus wa man? Wa gyud ko kadungog ang BPAT niduol nangayo og Christmas bonus…Wa, pero akoy nihatag ninyo,” Garcia said.

Additionally, Garcia assured the BPATs that he had instructed concerned individuals and offices to ensure that their honorarium, along with those of other barangay workers, would be processed promptly to avoid delays.

“Mao bitaw na nga ako ra tingali ang mayor nga naa gyuy standing order sa inyong mga hepe nga di ko gusto nga malangay ang paghatag sa inyong honorarium,” he added.

With these commitments, Garcia hopes to inspire the BPATs to perform their duties even better, especially as Cebu City becomes busier with activities for the Christmas and New Year’s Day celebrations and the upcoming Sinulog 2025. — (FREEMAN)
