CEBU, Philippines — There’s a 40 percent decline in index crimes in Central Visayas for the last week of November this year as compared to the same period the previous year.
Based on the latest crime report of the Police Regional Office-7, index crime cases dropped from 85 cases during the week of November 24 to 30, 2023, down to 51 cases in the same week this year.
Police Brigadier General Roy Parena, PRO-7 officer-in-charge said the index crimes include homicide, physical injury, rape, and theft.
Particularly striking is the 78.57 percent decline in robbery incidents, which dropped from 14 cases to 3.
Parena, in a press statement, attributed the substantial improvement in crime trends in Central Visayas to the decisive and coordinated efforts of various law enforcement agencies.
He highlighted the strategic deployment of PRO-7 personnel in high-traffic public areas, aimed squarely at tackling all forms of criminal activity head-on.
“With these remarkable results, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to our comprehensive strategy and a steadfast focus on combating crime in Central VIsayas, a mission I will continue to lead with determination," Pareña added.
Meanwhile, based on the PRO-7’s Daily Accomplishment report from December 6, 2024 to December 7, 2024, nine illegal drug operations were conducted resulting in the seizure of 82 grams of shabu worth P557,600 and 3.5 grams of marijuana with 10 individuals arrested.
PRO-7 also reported that they were able to arrest eight most wanted persons and 11 other wanted persons.
It also conducted 13 illegal gambling operations and arrested 18 persons, with 13 cases filed. — (FREEMAN)
