2024 literacy awards set to kick off in Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines — This year’s 2024 National Literacy Conference and Awards will take place at the Waterworld Hotel in Mandaue City from December 10 to 13.

In a memo issued by the Department of Education, this year’s conference will carry the theme “Cultivating Literate and Peaceful Communities: Practices, Partnerships, and Pathways”.

Regional directors of DepEd from different regions together with school superintendents, Alternative Learning System coordinators and focal persons, government and non-government organization representatives, and the 2022 and 2024 NLA national winners are expected to attend the conference.

As such, the event to be spearheaded by DepEd’s Literacy Coordinating Council is expected to gather the best practices, innovations, challenges, and opportunities, and policy recommendations from the participants.

DepEd Undersecretary Gina Gonong stressed in the memo issued earlier that no registration fees will be collected for this conference and only those officially endorsed by the regional offices will be considered as delegates.

For those who cannot make it, DepEd is also going to live-stream the conference simultaneously on DepEd Philippines and the Literacy Coordinating Council's Facebook pages.

Aside from that, the event is also set to recognize outstanding local government units, non-government organizations, public schools, and ALS Community Learning Centers via the 2024 NLA. — (FREEMAN)
