CEBU, Philippines — A bigger, better Flower Festival is being eyed by the Cebu City government for next year.
City agriculturist Joey Baclayon noted that this year’s festival drew more participants and is becoming more competitive with each edition.
“Every year, nagka-improve ang atoang presentation, ang atong mga contest, and also ang ni-participate pud,” Baclayon said via the City’s PIO.
With that, Baclayon is looking for a much better and bigger edition next year.
“So naglantaw ta nga by next year, mas modaghan pa ni kay atoa man sad gipadako ang atoang premyo karong tuiga,” he added.
This year’s edition saw 20 mountain barangays participating in the 14th Flower Festival. The city’s Flower Festival started in 2010.
“Gibuhat ta ni siya nga activity para lang g’yud matagaan nato og somehow recognition ang atoang mga mag-uuma ang ilahang participation, ang ilahang contribution labi na g’yud dinhi sa Cebu City nga naa g’yud diay mga mag-uuma naay mga produkto pud nga ilaha labi na g’yud ang flowers,” Baclayon explained.
The latest Flower Festival showcased 12 floral floats from different barangays, a barangay exhibit, and Flower Festival queen competition.
Barangay Malubog emerged as the best in float and pocketed ?100,000 for their winning efforts, followed by Sirao which went home with ?80,000 while Bonbon landed third and with a cash prize of ?60,000.
The likes of Binaliw, Budlaan, Buhisan, Cambinicot, Guba, Kalunasan, Pamutan, Sapangdaku, and Taptap that also participated in the float competition got ?30,000 apiece as consolation prizes.
In the barangay showcase exhibit, Adlaon topped the contest and went away with ?60,000 followed by Pamutan with ?50,000 while Sirao got another bronze plus ?40,000. The other participating barangays got ?20,000 each as consolation.
Kalunasan’s bet for the festival queen won the crown with Guba’s representative landing second and Sirao with another third place finish. (CEBU NEWS)
