At the South Road Properties: Traffic task force eyed

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — In anticipation of busier streets at the South Road Properties (SRP), the Cebu City government is forming a special task force exclusively for traffic management in the area.

The task force which will also be named as the SRP Patrol Group, will directly manage traffic at the SRP.

Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) Assistant Operations Head Jounald Bautista said the task force will be composed of personnel from CCTO, SRP Management Office, and other City Hall offices.

He said the task force’s main responsibility is to ensure that traffic laws at the SRP are strictly implemented and enforced, including those on the speed limit; removing traffic obstructions; and managing traffic at the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR).

“Kay himoon na man ni siyang discipline zone, mas istrikto na gyud ta. Ato na gyud ipatuman ang tanang lagda sa trapiko diha sa SRP,” Bautista said.

He emphasized that the special task force will augment CCTO’s work at the SRP, especially that more businesses are expected to open in the area next year.

“Proactive ang atong gihimo karon ug atong preparation ilabi na nga naa na poy mga bag-ong motubo nga negosyo diha sa SRP,” he said through the City’s Public Information Office Sugboanon Channel.

In particular, CCTO anticipates heavier traffic at the SRP next year once the 16,000-capacity SM Seaside Arena opens.

The SRP is also being targeted to become a special economic zone, which is being pushed by SRP Board Chairman and City Councilor Rey Gealon, as part of Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia’s order to bring in more developments in the area.

“Possibli nga modaghan ang sakyanan diha sa SRP, mao nang giandam nato ning task force,” Bautista said. —/RHM (FREEMAN)
